Fenix Food Factory Rotterdam

The Fenix was a mythological bird that, as legends say, when its time came, would burst into flames. From its own ashes a new-born would come out, starting that way a new and fresh life cycle.
Much like the legendary creature, the Fenix Food Factory has taken an old industrial warehouse in the district of Katendrecht, and made a laid-back alternative space for those who love food and culture out of it. Perfect for an afternoon of eating, drinking, and chilling with friends, or as part of a walking tour of Rotterdam as I did while visiting the lovely Hostel ROOM.

Really nicely located in the docks of Rijnhaven, across from the Hotel New York, the views from the terrace outside Fenix Food Factory are stunning (you may have seen this already if you follow me on Instagram).

If you have a chance, try to find a place in one of the seats outside, and don’t be shy to share a table (after asking) if you see an open space.

As for the interior, they’ve not done much to remodel it. It’s still an old warehouse with some added touches of wall art, miss-matched sofas, chairs, and tables, and the food stands.

They offer best of local produce ranging from cheese, meat, wine, Cidre, fresh fruits and veggies, beer, and a bakery. Slightly overpriced but it’s absolutely worth the quality of the product and the experience. You can either buy to take home, opt for one of the tasting plates, or…bring your own and just chill. I went for a cheese plate with some chutney and bread. (3.75€ per portion). Absolutely delicious! But you can also go for the cold cuts, wine, and/or beer tasting options.

The Fenix Food Factory is the ideal place for people to learn more about food, enjoy themselves, and have an all-round enriching time. And their regular music nights are a popular event among the locals, attracting people from all over the city (calendar). So are the food and drink related workshops they offer from time to time (workshops list).
