Madrid’s busy street of José Ortega y Gaset closed to trafic, and open to fashion and design. Why? Pasarela Distrito 01, a new concept of fashion event. No invitation required. 100 meters of outdoor showrooms, catwalks, concerts and the ever so popular food trucks. Nine hours to enjoy the best and brightest of Spanish fashion and design, while delighting yourself with the most delicious street food Madrid has to offer.
The first edition of this out-of-the-box creative event was a total success. Despite the blazing sun and high temperatures, hundreds of visitors came out to witness this new take on fashion promotion. Created as an alternative to the highly restrictive Mercedes Benz Madrid (Cibeles) Fashion Week for the every-day fashion and design oriented (wo)man, on May 31st Distrito 01 brought together 100 designers, both renowned names in the design world and yet-to-be-discovered talents, for the public to enjoy in a relaxed festive atmosphere.
And I personally fell in love with the cheeky stackable mix and match magnetic bracelets Bangls, which are becoming increasingly popular in the US and recently arrived in Spain (free delivery in Spain).
And Valentina Wolfermann’s fresh and adorable designs (specially the Suzy dress in royal blue and/or red!). You can find more about her work and/or buy her designs on HERE. (Twitter | Facebook | Instagram)
All throughout the day the visitors had the chance of attending to highly professional and beautifully curated fashion shows from names such as Leyre Valiente front row.
Front row anyone?. VIP style without the need for an exclusive invitation.
And the food…well I’ll tell you all about it the next time, because that was worth it’s own post!
Through and through a wonderful idea, which I hope repeats itself more often [*NOTE* date for the second edition coming soon!] and in more locations.
What do you think? Do you have something similar in your area? Would you attend such an event if it took place where you live?
