A Day at the Herrenhäuser Gärten in Hannover

[:en]Hannover (also Hanover) is one of those cities you’ve heard of but tend to forget it exists until you have to drive up to Hamburg or east to Berlin.

Exceptionally located in the crossroads of the principal connection routes in central Europe (west-east, and south-north), Hannover has developed a cosmopolitan vibe much like that you’d find in Berlin or Munich, despite its small size.

With more than 60 museums and theaters in the city, and one of the most active cultural scenes in north Germany (AC/DC will play here their only gig in N. Germany!), it’s no surprise that Hannover has been named UNESCO’s City of Music, UNESCO’s Creative City, .

And its people are incredibly friendly and ready to help! which is always good, right?

Now that you have a better idea about Hannover (Lower Saxony), I’d like to suggest you step out of the crowded streets of downtown Hannover and come explore with me the beautiful Herrenhäuser Gärten just 10 minutes away from the center.

Let’s jump on the Stadtbahn 4 (direction Garbsen) or 5 (direction Stöcken), whichever comes first. Tip: look around at the stations because they are astonishing, each uniquely decorated with intricate designs, worth of its own tour!

The Stadtbahn stops directly in front of the entrance to Herrenhäuser Gärten, so it’s impossible to get lost. To your Sea Life Hannover Aquarium (“Over 2,500 animals from more than 160 species in 37 fascinating displays”), and the Berggarten. To your left, the entrance to the Grosser Garten (big garden), museum, and rest of gardens.

If you’re a student bring your student ID with you because it’ll save you some money (Adults 8€/ Students 5€). Once you’re ready, join me outside, let’s walk along the garden!

One of the things I love about travelling is talking to people, you always get the best tips when talking to the locals. Look at this Rose garden!

And in summer, I’d suggest you go between 10am and 12pm or between 3 and 5pm to catch the fountains on! Absolutely worth a visit if you’re in Hannover.
