A Nature Walk in Hasbruch National Park

Last Friday, the 3rd of October, was the official German Reunification day after the fall of the Berlin Wall at the end of 1989.

In Germany it is celebrated by closing up everything (and I mean literally EVERYTHING) and enjoying the free day.

Because we had the day off and the autumn sun was shining, we spontaneusly decided to jump in the car, go somewhere with fresh air, and enjoy the sun among our fellow living creatures.

There’s not many things I enjoy more than a sunny autumn day walk in the forest, the changing trees, the morning dew drops lingering a bit longer, the stillness and peacefulness of it all. There’s something magical about it, as if fairies would start jumping around and dancing merrily in front of your eyes if you’re quiet enough.

For that reason, and because I haven’t see much of the surrounding area of Bremen, the Hasbruch National Park, about 30 minutes west from the city direction Oldenburg was our chosen destination

The Hasbruch National Park has been frequented by locals and visitors from far away lands for more than 150 years, although has been known to be mentioned in documents from as far as the year 1259. So it is not surprising to find trees as old as 500 years. Which we admired because these trees have survived Cristobal Colon’s accidental arrival in America, Napoleon, both World Wars, and so many other fascinating times (both good and bad) that makes me wish I could talk to them, they’d have such fascinating stories to tell! Anyhow, enough crazy talk for one day, don’t you think? 😉

Besides all the cool historical facts, it is also a nature preservation area. Wild animals and plants everywhere, seen, heard, admired…for us, it was mushroom season!

There are several entrance ways to this park depending on which aspect of it you’re mostly interested about. Lizards, beetles, awesome plants? No despair, there’s a right way for you, my friend. Either way is worth a visit, go there, take a seat in one of the many beautiful hidden benches and let yourself go. Listen, smell, don’t look, create your own world.

Go in, follow the paths, discover the perfection in imperfection. Simply, have a wonderful day.
