Berlin is home to many very incredibly talented individuals and companies from all over the world. This aspect makes of Berlin one of the most attractive cities to visit for creative and wandering minds. There’s always something to satiate your curiosity and hunger (of all kinds).
We were wandering around the Berlin-Mitte, without any specific route or plan in mind, when we ran into this little hidden candy factory in a small passage. It could have been easily missed, if it wasn’t for the shy little sign standing outside to point you in the right direction. The sign to a wonderful experience for your taste buds. Bonbon macherei is small, but full of flavor and happiness for those who find it.
As you walk down the little stairs into the small candy shop, the first thing you see is the area where they make the candy, that’s right, you can see how they make the candy you’ll eat later on. Amazing, isn’t it?
Unfortunately for us, it wasn’t production day, but we still got to see they people prepping the machines and different areas for later. And take a few pics of the curious artifacts they use to make the candy.
Once you enter, you are embraced by the aroma from the over 30 different flavored sweets placed beautifully on your right side, next to a nice table waiting for you to seat and enjoy your purchase. Or just wait for your your friends who want to buy some candy if you’re not much of a sweet-tooth.
The lady at the counter greets you cheerfully from the other end of the room, and after you’ve made your choice (though!) you pay and go. There are ready-made mixes or you can make your own. Easy peasy, when you can chose of course, there are so many options, if i could I would have just taken everything! You can taste from peppermint to pineapple to waldmeister (typical german and my favourite so far!), amongst more than 30 other flavours, anything you can possibly imagine, they have it!
Of course we couldn’t resist and had to do a mix of at least one of each from the ones with the strangest name. I have to say, each turned out surprisingly better than the previous one! This candy store is so good that I’m sure it would cost me a fortune if I lived in Berlin permanently!
The people at Bonbon Macherei are so confident in the quality of their sweets that they give you a “Leckergarantie” (warranty of amazingness, so to speak). I agree with them and heartily recommend searching (and finding) this hidden gem (open Mo-Sa from 12 to 8 pm) at
Oranienburger Str. 32
10117 Berlin-Mitte
